The Paintsville Country Club is a special old building located just east of Paintsville, Kentucky. It's a place where people can relax and play golf.
A kind person named Paul B. Hall gave the land for the club. He was a doctor who worked at Paintsville Medical Center for many years. Even though the city of Paintsville owns the club building, the golf course is owned by a private group.
This building is so important that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 29, 1989. This means it's recognized as a significant historical site in the United States.
Building the Club
The main building, called the clubhouse, was built by a group called the Works Progress Administration. This was a government program that helped people find jobs during a tough time in history.
Workers carefully cut sandstone from a nearby road, Kentucky Route 40, to use for the building. This shows how much effort went into making the club. The clubhouse officially opened its doors on November 24, 1939.
The Golf Course
Before the clubhouse was finished, the golf course was already open! The 18-hole golf course started welcoming players on September 27, 1929.
It was designed by Paul B. Hall, the same person who donated the land. He helped create a fun place for people to play golf.
