The Palace of Bertemati is an old and important building in Jerez de la Frontera, a city in Andalusia, Spain. It's a great example of old Spanish architecture.

History of the Palace

The palace was built in the 1700s by the Sopranis-Davila family. It was designed in the Baroque style, which was very popular at the time. The building was placed on a gentle slope near a stream.

In the early 1800s, the family sold the palace. It was then split into two separate buildings. The larger part was bought by Jose Bertemati, a very successful shop owner. He changed this part of the palace to the Neoclassical style. The smaller building had many different owners over the years. It was changed to have a mix of styles, including French influences.

The Palace Today

In 1942, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jerez de la Frontera took over both parts of the palace. This happened with the help of Monsignor Bertemati. The Diocese then allowed the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate to use the entire building.

The palace needed a lot of work. So, a big restoration project started in 2002. It took four years to finish, ending in 2006. The new main office for the Diocese was opened on December 8, 2005. A special church representative, called the Apostolic Nuncio, and the local bishop were there for the opening.
