Paloma Díaz-Mas (born in 1954) is a well-known Spanish writer and expert in literature. She writes novels, short stories, and essays.

Early Life and Education

Paloma Díaz-Mas was born in Madrid, Spain. She went to university to study journalism. She also studied philology, which is the study of language in historical texts.

In 1981, she earned her highest degree, a doctorate, from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Her special project for this degree was about Sephardic poetry. This is a type of poetry written by Jewish people who lived in Spain and Portugal a long time ago.

Career and Teaching

Today, Paloma Díaz-Mas teaches and does research at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Madrid. The CSIC is a very important research center in Spain.

She has also been a professor of Spanish literature and Sephardic literature. She has taught at several universities, including the Universidad del País Vasco in Spain. She has also taught in the United States at the University of Oregon and Washington University in St. Louis.

In April 2021, Paloma Díaz-Mas was chosen to be a member of the Royal Spanish Academy. This is a very important group that looks after the Spanish language. She took over the seat i, which was previously held by Margarita Salas.
