Pamelya Herndon is an American politician, lawyer, and accountant. She has been a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives since 2021. She represents the 28th district in New Mexico.

Pamelya Herndon's Early Life and Education
Pamelya Herndon was born on November 23, 1952. Her hometown is Hempstead, Texas. Her parents are Kathryn and Daniel Norris Herndon. She is African-American.
After high school, she went to Howard University. In 1975, she earned a degree in accounting. Later, she studied law at the University of Texas School of Law. She received her law degree in 1978.
Pamelya Herndon's Career Journey
After finishing her studies, Ms. Herndon moved to Denver in 1978. She started working at an accounting firm. Later, she became a lawyer for the Internal Revenue Service. This is a government agency that collects taxes.
In 1983, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. She joined the Attorney General of New Mexico's office in 1998. There, she worked in the litigation division. In 2006, she became the main lawyer for the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department.
In 2009, she took on a new role. She became the deputy secretary for the New Mexico General Services Department. Ms. Herndon also ran her own law practice for a time. In 2012, she became the executive director of the Southwest Women's Law Center.
Later, in 2018, she became the president and CEO of the KWH Law Center for Social Justice and Change. She has also taught law classes at the University of New Mexico School of Law. She taught paralegal courses at Brookline College–Albuquerque too. Pamelya Herndon has even hosted radio shows on KUNM.
Serving in the New Mexico House of Representatives
On June 22, 2021, Pamelya Herndon was chosen to join the New Mexico House of Representatives. Members of the Bernalillo County Commission appointed her. She represents the 28th district. This seat became open when Melanie Stansbury left to serve in the United States House of Representatives.
Pamelya Herndon's Personal Life
Pamelya Herndon married Alfred Mathewson in 1978. They have three children together. Her husband, Alfred Mathewson, is a retired professor. He used to be a co-dean at the University of New Mexico School of Law.
