Pamelya Herndon, born on November 23, 1952, is an American lawyer, accountant, and politician. She serves in the New Mexico House of Representatives for the 28th district. She has been a representative since 2021.

About Pamelya Herndon
Her Early Life and Education
Pamelya Herndon was born on November 23, 1952, in Hempstead, Texas. Her parents were Kathryn and Daniel Norris Herndon. She is African-American. After attending Roy Miller High School, she went to college.
She earned a degree in accounting from Howard University in 1975. Later, she received her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1978.
Her Career Journey
After finishing law school, Pamelya Herndon moved to Denver in 1978. There, she worked at an accounting company. She then became a lawyer for the Internal Revenue Service.
In 1983, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. She joined the Attorney General of New Mexico's office in 1998. In 2006, she became the main lawyer for the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department. She also worked as a deputy secretary for the New Mexico General Services Department starting in 2009.
Pamelya Herndon also had her own law practice. In 2012, she became the executive director of the Southwest Women's Law Center. In October 2018, she became the president and CEO of the KWH Law Center for Social Justice and Change. She has also taught law classes at the University of New Mexico School of Law. She taught paralegal courses at Brookline College–Albuquerque too. Herndon has also hosted radio shows on KUNM.
Becoming a Representative
On June 22, 2021, Pamelya Herndon was chosen to join the New Mexico House of Representatives. Members of the Bernalillo County Commission appointed her. She represents the 28th district. This position became open when Melanie Stansbury left to serve in the United States House of Representatives.
Her Family Life
Pamelya Herndon married Alfred Mathewson in 1978. They have three children together. Alfred Mathewson is a retired professor and former co-dean at the University of New Mexico School of Law.
