The idea for Pan de jamón came about in December 1905. A journalist named Miro Popić, who knows a lot about food, says that a baker named Gustavo Ramella created it. Gustavo owned a bakery in Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela.
At first, the bread was quite simple. It was only filled with ham. But soon, other bakeries in Caracas started making their own versions. They began to add new ingredients to make it even better. By the year 1920, people were adding olives, nuts, and capers to the filling. This made the Pan de jamón the rich and flavorful bread we know today. It quickly became a must-have dish for Christmas celebrations across Venezuela.
