Early Life and Education
Paolo Cabras was born in Rome, Italy, on January 16, 1931. Before he became a politician, he studied hard and earned a degree in medicine and surgery. This means he was a doctor who performed operations.
Starting a Political Career
Paolo Cabras began his journey in politics with a party called the Christian Democracy (DC). In 1972, he helped start an organization called Sunia, which was a union for tenants (people who rent homes).
That same year, he was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies. This is like one of the main law-making groups in Italy's government. He stayed in this role until 1987.
Serving in the Senate
In 1987, Paolo Cabras was elected to the Italian Senate. This is another important part of Italy's government, similar to the Chamber of Deputies but with different responsibilities. He served as a Senator until 1994.
During his time in the Senate, he became a Vice-president of the parliamentary Antimafia Commission. This special group worked to understand and prevent the negative influence of organized crime groups on local communities and institutions. He helped show how these groups could harm society.
Other Roles
From 1986 to 1989, Paolo Cabras also worked as an editor for the DC party's newspaper, Il Popolo. He passed away on July 2, 2020.
