Paolo Porpora facts for kids
Paolo Porpora (born 1617, died 1673) was an Italian painter from the late Baroque period. He mostly worked in Naples. Porpora was known for painting beautiful still lifes, especially those showing flowers. A still life is a painting of objects that don't move, like fruit, flowers, or everyday items.
He learned to paint from Giacomo Recco, who was the father of another famous painter named Giuseppe Recco. Some people also say he worked with Aniello Falcone. From 1656 to 1658, Paolo Porpora was part of the Roman Accademia di San Luca. An Accademia is like a special school or club for artists. While in Rome, he seemed to be inspired by painters from the Netherlands who also painted still life scenes.
