The Parasol Unit Foundation for Contemporary Art is a special art gallery in London. It's an "educational charity," which means it helps people learn about art. It's also a "not-for-profit" gallery, so it uses any money it makes to support its art shows and learning programs, not to make a profit for owners.
This cool art space opened in 2004. It's located inside an old warehouse that was completely changed. An Italian architect named Claudio Silvestrin designed the new look. The gallery has two floors and about 5,000 square feet (460 square meters) of space. That's a lot of room for amazing art!
The Parasol Unit was started by a woman named Ziba Ardalan. She is the director and also chooses the art for the shows. Ziba studied the history of art at Columbia University in New York. She worked at famous places like the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Swiss Institute. She has put together many art shows and loves to teach and write about art.
How the Gallery Works
The building where the Parasol Unit is located is privately owned. The owners let the foundation use the space for free. This helps the gallery put on great shows without having to pay for rent.
