Parker, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Parker is a small place in Scott County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it is a group of homes and businesses that is not officially a town or city. It does not have its own local government, like a mayor or city council. Instead, it is usually part of the larger county's government.

A Look Back at Parker's History

Parker has a short but interesting history. A long time ago, in 1875, a post office opened there. It was called "Parkers Station." A post office is where people send and receive mail. This one helped the community for about eight years. It closed down in 1883.

The community got its name from the Parker family. This family owned a sawmill in the area. A sawmill is a place where logs are cut into lumber. This lumber was used for building homes and other structures. The Parker family and their sawmill were important to the early days of the community.
