Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Parliamentary Peace Aims Group was a group of politicians from the Labour Party in Britain during World War II. They wanted to find a way to end the war through talks and agreements, rather than fighting until one side completely surrendered. This group was put together by Richard Stokes, a Member of Parliament (MP).

In November 1939, the group shared their ideas in a document called the Memorandum of Peace Aims. This document was published in a newspaper called the Daily Herald. More than 70 local Labour Party groups, known as Constituency Labour Partys, supported their ideas. Richard Stokes tried to get elected to a bigger role within the Labour Party in 1941, but he didn't quite make it.
