History of the Newspaper
Early Beginnings
The Pasadena Star-News was first published in 1884. It has been sharing news with the community for a very long time.
Changes in Ownership
Over the years, the newspaper has had different owners. In 1956, Ridder Newspapers bought the Star-News. Bernard J. Ridder became its publisher.
Later, in 1974, Ridder Newspapers joined with another company called Knight. They formed a new company called Knight Ridder.
The paper was sold again in 1989 to a company owned by William Dean Singleton. A year later, the Thomson Corporation bought most of the paper.
In 1996, Thomson sold the Star-News to Singleton's MediaNews Group. This is the group that owns the newspaper today.
Where the Newspaper Was Made
For many years, the Pasadena Star-News was printed in a building. This building was located at the corner of Colorado Boulevard and Oakland Avenue in Pasadena.
Today, that old newspaper building has new uses. It is now home to Technique at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. It also houses a 24 Hour Fitness gym.
Other Publications
The Pasadena Star-News also published a magazine. It was called the Rose Magazine.
