Passage to Pluto is an exciting science fiction novel written for young readers. It is the fourteenth book in the popular Chris Godfrey of U.N.E.X.A. series by Hugh Walters.
The book was first published in the United Kingdom by Faber in 1973. Later, it came out in the United States in 1975. This book was the last in the series to feature a cover illustration by the artist Leslie Wood.
Story of the Book
In Passage to Pluto, Chris Godfrey has become a high-ranking leader at UNEXA. He sends his trusted former crew-mates on an important mission. They need to investigate some strange wobbles in the path of the dwarf planet Pluto.
During their journey, the crew discovers two big problems. First, their spaceship's fuel tanks have holes. Second, a super-heavy, wandering planet, which they call "Planet X," is heading straight for our solar system. This mysterious planet threatens to cause huge damage to all the planets.
This book was one of the last "exploration" novels written by Hugh Walters. He wanted his stories to feel very real, and at the time, traveling much further into space seemed impossible.
