Patricia Chica is a talented Canadian film and television director, producer, and writer. She is also known as Chicatronica.
The American horror movie website Dread Central named her one of the "Rising Female Filmmakers" to watch. They said Patricia Chica makes "bold, edgy, and visually striking independent films." This means her movies are exciting and unique. She is known for creating a positive and creative environment when she works.
Patricia Chica's Journey in Film
From 2001 to 2008, Patricia worked on many documentary series. She was a writer, director, and producer for these shows. They were filmed all around the world. These documentaries were shown on channels like National Geographic and Discovery-Travel Channel.
In 2008, Patricia finished a documentary called Rockabilly 514. She co-directed it with Mike Wafer. For over four years, they followed young people who loved the 1950s rock and roll style. The film won the Best Documentary Award at a festival in New York. It was also shown at many film festivals around the world.
Patricia Chica has been recognized as one of the best local filmmakers in Montreal. Readers of the Montreal Mirror newspaper voted for her in their Top 10 list. She was the first female director to be on this list. She was ranked #10 in 2009, #5 in 2010, #8 in 2011, and #10 in 2012.
In 2013, readers of CULT #MTL Magazine also voted for Patricia Chica. She was in the Top 3 of Best Local Filmmakers. This made her the only woman on that list. Her short film Ceramic Tango was also voted into the Top 4 for Best Local Film.
In 2015, Patricia Chica was part of the movie Women in Horror Month PSA. This was an Anthology film, which means it's a movie made of several short films. She was again listed by Dread Central as a "Rising Female Filmmaker" to watch.
In 2022, she released her feature film Montreal Girls. This movie was shown in theaters.
