Patricio Caxés facts for kids
Patricio Caxés, also known as Caxesi or Caxete, was an Italian painter who spent most of his life working in Spain. He was born in Arezzo, Italy, but we don't know the exact year he was born. He passed away in 1612.
Working for the King
Patricio Caxés became a very famous artist. So famous, in fact, that King Philip II invited him to come and work in Spain. Caxés painted many artworks in the royal palaces in Madrid.
One of his big projects was painting a gallery for the queen in the Palace of the Pardo. Sadly, this palace later burned down, and many of Caxés's beautiful paintings were lost in the fire.
Other Works and Later Life
Besides painting, Caxés also worked on books. He translated a book about architecture called 'Five Orders of Architecture' by Vignola from Italian into Spanish. He even created the pictures and the cover for the book!
Patricio Caxés worked for two kings, Philip II and later Philip III, for 44 years. Even after serving the kings for so long, he died in Madrid in 1612, at an old age and very poor. When King Philip III found out that Caxés had left his wife and eight children with nothing, he generously gave them a small amount of money every day for a year to help them.
Caxés had a son named Eugenio Caxés who also became a painter and worked for King Philip III, following in his father's footsteps.
