Patrick Anderson was an important Scottish minister who lived in the 1600s. He was known as a Covenanter, which means he supported a special agreement called the National Covenant. This agreement was about protecting the Presbyterian Church in Scotland.

Early Life and Education

Patrick Anderson started his journey in education at a young age. He studied at the famous University of St Andrews. In 1648, he earned his Master of Arts (M.A.) degree there. This degree showed he had completed advanced studies.

After finishing his education, Patrick Anderson became a minister. He moved to Walston sometime between May and November of 1655. There, he began his work serving the local community.

Family Life and Connections

Patrick Anderson married Margaret Threipland. They shared a life together in Walston. Legal documents from 1659 and 1663 show they owned a corn mill in Biggar. These documents also included their children.

Patrick's Notable Son: James Anderson

One of Patrick and Margaret's children was a son named James Anderson. He was born on August 5, 1662. James grew up to be a very important person in Scotland.

James became a Writer to the Signet (W.S.). This was a special type of lawyer in Scotland. He also held the important job of Postmaster General for Scotland. This meant he was in charge of all the mail services in the country.

James Anderson was also a well-known historian and expert on old documents. He wrote several books, including "Selectus Diplomatum Numismatum Scotice Thesaurus." This book was about old Scottish legal papers and coins. He also wrote "Collections relating to the History of Mary, Queen of Scots." James Anderson passed away on April 3, 1728.

Patrick's Daughter: Mary Anderson

Patrick Anderson also had a daughter named Mary. She married David Pitcairn of Dreghorn. Their marriage agreement was made in April 1678. Mary and David's granddaughter later became a very famous person. She was the grandmother of Principal Robertson. Principal Robertson was a leading figure in the Scottish Enlightenment.
