Patrick Drummond, 3rd Lord Drummond facts for kids
Patrick Drummond was an important Scottish landowner. He was known as the 3rd Lord Drummond. He lived from 1550 to 1600. Patrick's father was David Drummond, the 2nd Lord Drummond. His mother was Lilias Ruthven. Her father was William Ruthven, 2nd Lord Ruthven.
During a time called the Marian Civil War in Scotland, an English commander named William Drury noticed Patrick Drummond. This was in April 1572. There was a meeting of important Scottish nobles in Perth. People said they were meeting to talk about the young Lord Drummond. They also discussed his mother, Lilias Ruthven. Drury heard that these nobles also planned to form a group together. But a disagreement between the Earl of Argyll and the Earl of Atholl stopped this plan.
Lord Drummond later traveled to France. He came back to Scotland in February 1583.
Patrick Drummond's Family
Patrick Drummond married Elisabeth Lindsay. She passed away in 1585. Elisabeth was the daughter of David Lindsay, 9th Earl of Crawford and Katherine Campbell. Patrick and Elisabeth had several children:
- James Drummond, who became the 4th Lord Drummond. He was also the 1st Earl of Perth. He traveled to Spain in 1604 with the Earl of Nottingham.
- John Drummond, 2nd Earl of Perth, who married Jean Kerr. She was the daughter of Robert Ker, 1st Earl of Roxburghe. They married on August 28, 1613.
- Katherine Drummond, who married James Leslie in 1594. He was the Master of Rothes. Their son was John Leslie, 6th Earl of Rothes.
- Lilias Drummond, who passed away in 1601. She married Alexander Seton, 1st Earl of Dunfermline.
- Jean Drummond, who passed away in 1643. She was a companion to Anne of Denmark. In 1614, she married Robert Ker, 1st Earl of Roxburghe as his second wife.
- Elizabeth Drummond, who married Alexander Elphinstone. He was the 5th Lord Elphinstone.
- Anne Drummond, who married twice. First, she married Patrick Barclay of Towie. Second, she married Andrew Fraser, 1st Lord Fraser.
In 1589, Patrick Drummond married Agnes Drummond. Agnes was the widow of Hugh Montgomerie, 3rd Earl of Eglinton. She was the daughter of Sir John Drummond 2nd of Innerpeffray and Margaret Stewart.
