A Moment of Great Bravery
Patrick Graham was about 20 years old when he showed incredible bravery. He was a private, which is a regular soldier, in the 90th Regiment of Foot. This was during a big conflict called the Indian Mutiny in 1857.
On November 17, 1857, in a place called Lucknow, something special happened. There was a lot of intense gunfire, but Patrick Graham bravely went out to rescue a wounded friend. He brought his comrade to safety even though it was very dangerous.
His fellow soldiers in the regiment chose him for this special award. This shows how much they respected his courage.
