Patrick Kinane's Political Journey
Becoming a Teachta Dála
Patrick Kinane was first elected to Dáil Éireann in 1947. A Teachta Dála (TD) is like a member of parliament in Ireland. He won his seat in a special election called a by-election. This by-election happened on 29 October 1947. It was held for the Tipperary area. The election was needed because the previous TD, William O'Donnell, had passed away. On the same day, the leader of Kinane's party, Seán MacBride, also won a by-election in Dublin County.
Elections and His Time in Office
Patrick Kinane was re-elected in the 1948 general election. A general election is when all the seats in Dáil Éireann are up for a vote. This time, he represented the Tipperary North area. He served until the 1951 general election, when he lost his seat. He tried to get re-elected in the 1954 general election but was not successful.
