Paul Reiser is an American actor, comedian, and writer. He was born on March 30, 1956. He is well-known for playing Michael Taylor in the 1980s TV show My Two Dads. He also starred as Paul Buchman in the NBC sitcom Mad About You.
You might also recognize him from movies like Diner (where he played Modell) and the Beverly Hills Cop movies as Detective Jeffrey Friedman. More recently, he has been praised for his roles as Jim Neiman in the 2014 film Whiplash and Dr. Sam Owens in the Netflix series Stranger Things. He also played Carter Burke in the science fiction movie Aliens.

Early Life and Education
Paul Reiser was born in New York City in 1956. His mother, Helen Hollinger Reiser, was a homemaker. His father, Samuel H. Reiser, was a health food distributor. Paul has three sisters. His family has Romanian Jewish roots.
He went to the East Side Hebrew Institute and then graduated from Stuyvesant High School. Later, he studied music at Binghamton University. While in college, he performed in student theater shows. He discovered his talent for comedy by performing in clubs in New York during his summer breaks.
Acting and Comedy Career
Paul Reiser started his career as a stand-up comedian. His first big movie role was in 1982 in Diner. This film helped show his acting skills to Hollywood. After that, he played a detective in Beverly Hills Cop (1984) and its sequel Beverly Hills Cop II (1987). He returned to this role in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
In 1986, Reiser appeared in James Cameron's Aliens, playing the character Carter Burke. He also acted in movies like The Marrying Man (1991) and Bye Bye Love (1995).
Television Success
Reiser starred in the TV sitcom My Two Dads from 1987 to 1990. In this show, he played one of two possible fathers to a teenage girl. He became very famous in North America for his role as Paul Buchman in Mad About You. This comedy series ran from 1992 to 1999. He also helped create the show and co-wrote its theme song.
For his work on Mad About You, Reiser received many awards nominations. These included nominations for an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. The show was brought back for a limited series in 2019.
Recent Roles and Projects
In 2001, Reiser took on a serious role in the British TV film My Beautiful Son. In 2002, he appeared as himself in Larry David's sitcom, Curb Your Enthusiasm. He also worked with singer Julia Fordham on a music album called Unusual Suspects in 2010.
Reiser created and starred in a comedy series called The Paul Reiser Show in 2011. He also co-created the show There's... Johnny! in 2017. In recent years, Reiser has appeared in films like Whiplash. He has also been in TV series such as Red Oaks, Stranger Things, and The Boys. He played Martin in the second and third seasons of The Kominsky Method.
Writing Career
Paul Reiser is also a successful writer. He has written three books. His first book, Couplehood, is about the funny parts of being in a relationship. His second book, Babyhood, shares his experiences as a new father. His third book, Familyhood, released in 2011, is a collection of funny stories.
Personal Life
Paul Reiser married Paula Ravets on August 21, 1988. They have two sons, born in 1995 and 2000. Reiser has spoken publicly about his older son, who has cerebral palsy.
Paul Reiser is the cousin of screenwriter and producer Will Reiser. Will wrote the film 50/50 (2011). Reiser's first cousin is also the legal scholar Richard Epstein.
