Her Life and Studies

María Paz Battaner Arias finished her studies in Romance Philology at Salamanca University in 1960. At that time, some very important language experts taught there, like Alonso Zamora Vicente and Fernando Lázaro Carreter.

In 1973, she earned her doctorate degree. Her special project was about political and social words used in Spain between 1869 and 1873. This work was published a few years later.

From 1980 to 1993, she was a full professor at the Universidad de Barcelona. Later, from 1993 until now, she has been a professor of Spanish Philology at Universidad Pompeu Fabra. There, she led a research group called Infolex that studied applied linguistics.
