Building a Stronghold
The story of Peñafiel Castle began a very long time ago. In 947, a brave leader named Fernan Gonzalez started building defenses here. He wanted to protect the land from attacks by the Arabs.
Later, in 1013, another important person named Sancho Garcia built a castle on this spot. It was made to keep the area safe. Over the years, other powerful Spanish nobles added to the castle. These included Juan Manuel and Pedro Girón. They helped make the castle even stronger and bigger.
A Royal Birth
Something very special happened at Peñafiel Castle in 1421. Blanche I, who was the Queen of Navarre, gave birth to her son here. Her son was Charles, Prince of Viana. He was born right inside the castle's main tower, called the keep.
