Peadar Clohessy was a farmer before he became a politician. He worked hard to represent the people of his area. He was known for his dedication to public service.
Starting His Political Career
Peadar Clohessy first tried to become a TD three times. He was finally elected in the 1981 general election. This was a big moment for him. He joined the Fianna Fáil political party at that time.
However, he lost his seat in the next election, which happened in February 1982. He decided not to run in the election later that year.
Joining a New Party
Later, Peadar Clohessy became a founding member of a new political party called the Progressive Democrats. This party was just starting out. In the 1987 general election, he was one of 14 people from this new party who were elected as TDs.
He kept his seat in every election until he decided to retire in 1997.
Important Roles in Government
