About the Pearce–McAllister Cottage
This charming house was built in 1899. It was designed in a style called Dutch Colonial Revival. This means it looked a bit like old Dutch houses. A talented architect named Frederick Sterner built it. He built it for Harold V. Pearce and his wife, Cara Rowena Bell Pearce.
A Look Inside the Cottage
Later, another family named the McAllisters owned the house. They updated the inside of the cottage in the 1920s. The house is still set up to look like it did after their changes. This helps visitors imagine what life was like back then.
A Home for Miniatures
For many years, the Pearce–McAllister Cottage was home to a unique museum. This was the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys. It had an amazing collection of tiny things. The museum featured over 20,000 objects. These included dolls, toys, and miniature scenes. The collection dated all the way back to 1680. The museum was located in the cottage until 2018.
A Recognized Historic Place
The Pearce–McAllister Cottage is very important to history. Because of this, it was added to the US National Register of Historic Places in 1972. This list helps protect special buildings and sites across the country.
