Pease Park (also called Pease District Park) is a fun park right in the middle of Austin, Texas. It's next to Shoal Creek, just west of downtown Austin. Lots of students from the University of Texas at Austin visit the park. It used to have a popular disc golf course too! Every spring, Pease Park is home to the yearly Eeyore's Birthday Party. This special celebration has been a favorite in Austin since the 1960s, bringing many people together for fun.

Park History and Development

The land for Pease Park was given to the city of Austin in 1875. It was a gift from Elisha M. Pease, who was the governor of Texas, and his wife.

For many years, the land was empty. Then, in 1926, the city and other groups worked together to make the park beautiful. They built new entrance gates, restrooms, and other helpful things.

More improvements came later. In the 1930s, a group called the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) added long concrete picnic tables. The CCC was a program that helped young men find work during tough economic times. In the 1950s, a new trail was built. This hike-and-bike trail connected Pease Park to Austin's bigger network of trails.

Since 1974, Pease Park has been the place for Austin's yearly Eeyore's Birthday Party. This event is full of music, fun costumes, games, and drum circles. A drum circle is when a group of people play drums and other instruments together.

Thousands of people usually come to this party. The whole park fills up with exciting activities and happy visitors.

Former Disc Golf Course

Pease Park used to have a very popular disc golf course. This course ran along Shoal Creek. Disc golf is a sport where players throw a disc (like a frisbee) into a target.

However, on January 1, 2011, the disc golf course was closed. It was closed because of problems it was causing for the environment in the park.
