Acacia pedleyi, also known as Pedley's wattle, is a special type of tree. It grows naturally in eastern Australia. This tree is quite rare, which means it is considered a vulnerable species. This means it needs protection to make sure it doesn't disappear.

What Does Pedley's Wattle Look Like?

Pedley's wattle is a tall, straight tree. It can grow up to 10 metres (33 ft) high. Its bark is usually smooth and grey to green. Near the bottom of the tree, the bark can feel a bit rough.

The small branches, called branchlets, are hairy. They are brown-green to brown in color. These branchlets also have tiny ridges, about 0.3 mm (0.012 in) tall.

The leaves of Pedley's wattle are dark green. They look feathery and are about 1 to 2 centimetres (0.39 to 0.79 in) long. These leaves are made up of smaller parts. Each leaf has three to eight pairs of tiny leaf branches, called pinnae. These pinnae are attached to a main stem, which is about 2.1 to 7 cm (0.83 to 2.76 in) long.

Each of these pinnae has many even smaller leaf parts. These are called pinnules. There can be 20 to 104 pairs of them! Each pinnule is shaped like a small rectangle. They are very tiny, only about 0.8 to 3.6 mm (0.031 to 0.142 in) long and 0.3 to 0.7 mm (0.012 to 0.028 in) wide.

Where Does Pedley's Wattle Grow?

You can find A. pedleyi growing in open woodlands. It usually grows underneath taller trees. It often shares its home with other trees like Acacia crassa, Corymbia citriodora, Eucalyptus moluccana, and Eucalyptus populnea.

This wattle tree likes to grow in different places. It can be found on flat areas near rivers, called alluvial flats. It also grows on hillsides and along the tops of ridges.

Most of these trees live in Central Queensland. They are found mainly between the Calliope Range and the Callide Range. This area is in the Port Curtis District, which is part of the Rockhampton Region. There are also much smaller groups of these trees. You can find them near Biloela and around the Degalgil State Forest.
