Pedro Fernández de Velasco (born around 1485, died November 10, 1559) was an important Spanish nobleman. He held the title of the 3rd Duke of Frías. Being a Grandee of Spain meant he was one of the highest-ranking nobles in the country, very close to the king. His full title was Don Pedro Fernández de Velasco y Tovar, 3rd Duke of Frías, 5th Count of Haro, and 9th Constable of Castile.

His Family and Titles

Pedro Fernández de Velasco was the son of Íñigo Fernández de Velasco, who was the 2nd Duke of Frías, and Doña María de Tovar. In 1508, he married his cousin, Doña Juliana de Velasco y Aragón. She was the 1st Countess of Castilnovo. They did not have any children together.

Pedro became the 3rd Duke of Frías in 1528. This was a very important title in Spain. He also held the title of Constable of Castile from 1528 until his death in 1559. The Constable of Castile was a high military and political position, often acting as the king's representative in certain areas.

After Pedro's death in 1559, his nephew, Iñigo II Fernández de Velasco, became the 4th Duke of Frías.
