Club Career
Playing for El Nacional
Pedro Quiñónez joined the football club El Nacional when he was 16 years old. He played for their younger teams (U-16, U-18, and U-20). In 2004, he played his first game for the senior team.
By 2005, he became a full member of the main team. He helped El Nacional win two national championships in 2005 and 2006. This made El Nacional one of the most successful teams in Ecuador. Pedro was a very important player for the team. His strong performances also led to him being called up to the national team. He is a versatile player who can play in different midfield positions.
Moving to Santos Laguna
On December 12, 2008, Pedro Quiñónez signed a contract with Santos Laguna. This team plays in the Mexican league. He moved to Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico, to join his new club.
Loan and Transfer to Emelec
On January 14, 2010, Pedro Quiñónez went on loan to Emelec, a big club in Ecuador. He quickly became a key player for Emelec during the 2010 season. Because he played so well, his loan was extended until late 2011.
In November 2011, Emelec officially bought Pedro Quiñónez from Santos Laguna. He became a permanent player for Emelec after they paid the transfer fee.
International Career
Pedro Quiñónez also played for the Ecuador national team. In 2007, he was chosen to be part of the team for the Copa America 2007 tournament. He replaced an injured player named Luis Caicedo. Even though he was called up, he did not play in any games during that tournament.
He later played in other matches for Ecuador. One notable game was against the Mexico national team on November 12, 2008, which took place in the United States. He also played in the 2015 Copa América.
