Pedro Rodríguez de Castro was an important nobleman from Castile, a kingdom in medieval Spain. He lived from about 1171 to 1191. He was the second son of Rodrigo Fernández de Castro and Eylo Álvarez. His family, the House of Castro, was very powerful.

Pedro Rodríguez de Castro held important positions. Like his great-grandfather, Pedro Ansúrez, he was the Mayordomo mayor (Chief Steward) of León in 1184. This was a high-ranking job, like being a chief advisor to the king. He also governed several areas, including Grado, Tineo, Pravia, and Limia. These areas were called tenencias.

Some old books, like the Nobiliario by the Count of Barcelos, called him "the monk". This is because he decided to live a religious life after his wife passed away.

His Family Life

Pedro Rodríguez de Castro married Urraca Guzmán Rodríguez before 1171. She was the daughter of Rodrigo Muñoz de Guzmán and Mayor Díaz. It is believed they did not have any children.

Gifts from the King

On December 19, 1187, King Alfonso VIII of Castile gave Pedro Rodríguez de Castro a special gift. The king gave him the towns of Villasila and Villamelendro. This was a thank you for Pedro joining the king's service and helping the Castilian Crown.

Later Years and Death

Pedro Rodríguez de Castro was last mentioned in historical records on November 22, 1191. He passed away sometime after this date.
