Playing in Italy and Japan
After his time in Argentina, Pedro spent a big part of his playing career in Italy. He played for several teams in Italy's top league, Serie A, including Hellas Verona, Lazio, and Ascoli. He also played in Serie B, which is Italy's second division.
Later in his career, Pedro Troglio moved to Japan to play for Avispa Fukuoka. He then returned to Argentina, playing for Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata and Villa Dálmine. He played many games throughout his career, showing his skill and dedication on the field.
Pedro Troglio's Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Pedro Troglio became a football coach. He started coaching Godoy Cruz in Argentina. In March 2005, he took over Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata, a team that was struggling. He helped them stay in the top division, the Primera.
Success and Challenges as a Coach
The next season, Pedro led Gimnasia to a fantastic second-place finish in a major tournament called the Apertura. This was one of the best results the club had ever achieved. Because of his success, Gimnasia honored him by retiring his number 21 jersey in June 2006. This was the first time an Argentine football club had ever retired a player's number!
After a few years, Pedro moved on to coach other teams. He managed Independiente and then Cerro Porteño in Paraguay. In 2009, he led Cerro Porteño to win the Apertura championship. He also coached Argentinos Juniors before returning to Gimnasia.
Coaching in Honduras
In 2019, Pedro Troglio took on a new challenge in Honduras, becoming the manager of CD Olimpia. This club is known for having won many titles in Honduras. When he arrived, the team hadn't won a championship in six tournaments. Pedro quickly changed that! He led Olimpia to win the 2019–20 Apertura title, ending their long wait for a championship.
He continued to have great success with Olimpia, winning multiple league titles. In 2022, he also led them to win the CONCACAF League, a big international club competition. After a short time coaching San Lorenzo in Argentina, he returned to Olimpia in June 2022 to continue his winning streak.
