Pedro Antonio Troglio, born on July 28, 1965, is a famous Argentine football manager and a former player. He used to play as a midfielder. As of 2025, he is the manager for the football club Banfield.

Pedro Troglio's Playing Career

Pedro Troglio had an exciting career as a football player. He played for several important clubs and even represented his country, Argentina, in the 1990 FIFA World Cup.

Early Years and River Plate

Troglio started his professional journey with River Plate, one of Argentina's biggest football teams. He played there from 1983 to 1988. During this time, he helped River Plate win some major titles.

  • In 1986, his team won the Argentine Primera División, which is Argentina's top football league.
  • They also won the Copa Libertadores in 1986, a huge South American club competition.
  • Later that year, they won the Intercontinental Cup, playing against the best team from Europe.
  • They also secured the Copa Interamericana.

Playing in Italy and Japan

After his success in Argentina, Troglio moved to Italy. He played for teams like Hellas Verona, Lazio, and Ascoli in the top Italian league, Serie A. He spent four seasons in Serie A and two seasons in Serie B, another Italian league.

Later, he moved to Japan and played for Avispa Fukuoka. In 1995, his team won the Japan Football League.

Return to Argentina

Towards the end of his playing career, Troglio returned to Argentina. He played for Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata and Villa Dálmine. With Gimnasia, he helped them reach second place in the Argentine Primera División in the 2001-02 season.

Playing for Argentina

Pedro Troglio also played for the Argentine national team. He was part of the squad that played in the 1990 FIFA World Cup. During that tournament, he scored a goal against the USSR. Argentina finished as runner-up in the 1990 World Cup.

Pedro Troglio's Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Pedro Troglio became a football manager. He has coached many teams in Argentina and other countries, achieving great success.

Coaching Gimnasia La Plata

In March 2005, Troglio took over as coach for Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata, a team he had played for. He helped them stay in the Primera División. The next season, he led them to a fantastic second-place finish in the Apertura tournament, which was one of their best results ever.

In June 2006, as a special honor, his jersey number 21 was retired by Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata. This was the first time an Argentine football club had ever retired a player's number!

Coaching Other Teams

Troglio also coached other clubs in Argentina, including Godoy Cruz, Independiente, and Argentinos Juniors. In 2009, he led Cerro Porteño to win the Campeonato Apertura in Paraguay.

Success with CD Olimpia

In 2019, Pedro Troglio moved to Honduras to manage CD Olimpia, which is the club with the most titles in that country. The team had not won a championship for six tournaments.

Under Troglio's leadership, Olimpia's luck changed!

  • They won the 2019–20 Clausura tournament, ending their long wait for a title.
  • He led them to win multiple Honduran Liga Nacional titles, including the 2019 Apertura, 2020 Apertura, 2021 Clausura, 2021 Apertura, 2022 Apertura, and 2023 Clausura.
  • In 2022, he also guided Olimpia to win the CONCACAF League, a major international club competition in North and Central America.

After a short time with San Lorenzo in Argentina, he returned to CD Olimpia in June 2022 and continued his successful coaching journey there until 2024. As of 2025, he is the manager of Banfield.
