History

Diego Berreto
Diego Barreto started his football journey at Cerro Porteño's youth academy.

Club Cerro Porteño was founded on October 1, 1912. A woman named Susana Núñez and a group of young people wanted to create a new football club. At that time, Paraguay had some political disagreements between two main parties: the Partido Colorado (Red Party) and the Partido Liberal (Liberal Party).

Edgar Barreto
Edgar Barreto moved from the club's youth team to the main team in 2003.

To show unity and friendship among Paraguayans, the club's founders decided to use the colors of both parties: red and blue. Later, white was added to the shorts. This made the team's uniform include all the colors of the Paraguayan flag.

The club's name, Cerro Porteño, comes from an important battle. This battle happened on January 19, 1811, near a place called Cerro Mbaé (Mbaé Hill). In this battle, the Paraguayan army bravely fought against troops from Buenos Aires, Argentina (who were called Porteños). Even though their Spanish leaders left them, the Paraguayan officials led their soldiers to a big victory. This battle is a famous part of Paraguay's history.
