Santiago Gabriel Salcedo González (born September 6, 1981), often called Sasá, is a Paraguayan football player. He plays as a forward for Sol de América in Paraguay's top league.

Santiago Salcedo is a record-breaker! He is the player with the most goals in the history of the Primera División Paraguaya, which is Paraguay's main football league. He has scored 152 goals, which is more than any other player in Paraguayan football. This puts him ahead of other great scorers like Hernan Rodrigo Lopez (127 goals), Juan Eduardo Samudio (119 goals), and Fredy Bareiro (112 goals).

In 2015, a newspaper called Diario Extra listed Santiago Salcedo as one of the top 10 most valuable players in Paraguayan football.

Santiago Salcedo's Football Journey

Santiago Salcedo started his career playing for Cerro Porteño in Paraguay. In 2005, he became the top scorer in the 2005 Copa Libertadores tournament, scoring nine goals for his team. This is a huge achievement in South American football!

After that, he moved to Japan to play for FC Tokyo. However, he had some disagreements with his coach there. So, in 2006, he was loaned to Newell's Old Boys in Argentina.

Later, in 2007, Salcedo played for Chiapas in Mexico for a short time. He then returned to Newell's Old Boys for the 2007–08 season. During the 2008 Clausura tournament, he scored nine goals. One of his most memorable goals was the winning goal against Rosario Central in the exciting Rosario derby match.

After his great performance, River Plate, a famous Argentine club, asked him to join their team. This was at the request of their coach, Diego Simeone.

When coach Simeone left River Plate, Salcedo returned to Newell's Old Boys for the 2009 Clausura tournament. In August 2009, another Argentine club, Lanús, signed him.

After a short time playing for Argentinos Juniors, he went back to his old club, Cerro Porteño. There was even talk that he might join a Spanish club called Hércules. His friend and national team teammate, Nelson Haedo Valdez, who played for Hércules at the time, suggested him for the team.

In August 2013, Santiago Salcedo was loaned to Club Atlético Banfield. He played for them in Argentina's second division, Primera B Nacional.

In 2016, he moved to Club Libertad after being on loan to Sol de América in 2015.

In January 2021, Santiago Salcedo decided to play for Sportivo San Lorenzo in Paraguay's second division. He wanted to help the club get promoted back to the top league. What's even cooler is that his brother, Jose Domingo Salcedo, was the coach of the team!

In December 2021, it was confirmed that Salcedo would return to the top league in 2022. He joined General Caballero JLM, a newly promoted team. At 40 years old, he still aimed to be the league's top goal scorer! His transfer was officially completed in January 2022.
