Santiago Gabriel Salcedo González (born September 6, 1981), often called Sasá, is a famous football player from Paraguay. He plays as a forward, which means he's usually trying to score goals for his team. He currently plays for Sol de América in Paraguay's top football league.

Santiago Salcedo is a true legend in Paraguayan football! He has scored more goals than anyone else in the history of the Primera División Paraguaya, Paraguay's main football league. He has an amazing 152 goals, which is more than other great players like Hernan Rodrigo Lopez, Juan Eduardo Samudio, and Fredy Bareiro. In 2015, he was even ranked among the top 10 most valuable players in Paraguayan football.

Santiago Salcedo's Football Journey

Santiago Salcedo started his professional football career in 2001 with Cerro Porteño, a well-known club in Paraguay. He quickly showed his talent for scoring goals.

Early Career and Loan Spells

In 2003, Santiago went on loan to MKE Ankaragücü in Turkey. After returning to Cerro Porteño, he became the top scorer in the 2005 Copa Libertadores tournament, scoring nine goals! This was a huge achievement for him and his team.

Later in 2005, he moved to FC Tokyo in Japan. However, he soon returned to South America, joining Newell's Old Boys in Argentina in 2006. He also had a loan spell with Chiapas in Mexico in 2007.

Playing for Big Clubs

Santiago returned to Newell's Old Boys and continued to score important goals. In 2008, he joined River Plate, one of Argentina's biggest clubs, at the request of their coach, Diego Simeone.

After a short time at River Plate, he went back to Newell's. In 2009, he signed with Lanús, another strong team in Argentina. He also played for Argentinos Juniors for a brief period.

Return to Paraguay

Santiago came back to Cerro Porteño in Paraguay. He was even considered by a Spanish club, Hércules, as a possible replacement for a famous player, David Trezeguet. His national team friend, Nelson Haedo Valdez, who played for Hércules, recommended him.

In 2013, Santiago joined Club Atlético Banfield on loan, playing in Argentina's second division, Primera B Nacional.

Later Career and Milestones

In 2016, Santiago moved to Libertad after a successful loan period with Sol de América in 2015, where he scored 30 goals.

In January 2021, Santiago decided to play for Sportivo San Lorenzo in Paraguay's second division. He wanted to help the club get promoted back to the top league, and he was coached by his brother, Jose Domingo Salcedo.

In December 2021, it was confirmed that Santiago would return to the Primera División in 2022, signing with the newly promoted team General Caballero JLM. At 40 years old, he still aimed to be the league's top goal scorer! His transfer was officially completed in January 2022. He later returned to Sol de América.

Playing for His Country

Santiago Salcedo has also represented his home country, Paraguay, on the international stage. He played in 6 matches for the national team between 2003 and 2017.
