Pelado Hill, also known as Pelado Peak, is an old volcano. Its name in Spanish is Cerro Pelado. This hill is located about 12 kilometers southeast of Cañas (canton).

What Does "Pelado" Mean?
The word Pelado comes from Spanish. It means "bare" or "naked." This name fits the hill because its top does not have many trees. It looks like a bare spot on the land.
What Does Pelado Hill Look Like?
Pelado Hill is a very old volcano. It has not erupted for millions of years. Over time, wind and rain have worn it down. You can still see the basic shape of its old crater. This area also has some natural hot springs nearby. These springs show there is still some heat underground.
Visiting Pelado Hill
Pelado Hill is on private land. This land covers about 200 hectares. Around 2007, more people started visiting the hill. New paths were made to reach the top. Simple places for visitors were also built. Many people shared photos of the hill on social media. This made the area very popular, especially on Instagram.
