Penny Arcade is a popular webcomic that focuses on video games. It was started in 1998 by Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik. Meet the Penny Arcade Characters
The Penny Arcade comic strip features two main characters. These characters are based on the creators themselves. John "Gabe" Gabriel is inspired by Mike Krahulik. He is usually happy, but can sometimes get very angry. The other character is Tycho Brahe, who is based on Jerry Holkins. Tycho is named after the famous astronomer Tycho Brahe. This character is often serious and can be a bit unhappy.
Gabe and Tycho often experience events similar to what their creators go through. However, they react to these situations in their own unique ways. Most of the comic strips show the two characters talking about "nerd culture". This usually means they are discussing video games. The comic sometimes uses strong language. This humor can sometimes be seen as offensive by some readers.

Podcasts and Video Games
They started releasing podcasts called Downloadable Content on March 20, 2006. These podcasts let fans hear more from the creators. They also created a series of four video games. These games are loosely based on the comic strip. The first game in the series, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, came out on May 21, 2008. One of the characters, Tycho, even appeared in another game. He was in Poker Night at the Inventory with characters from other popular games. These included Team Fortress 2, Strong Bad, and Sam & Max.
Penny Arcade: The Series
A reality television show about the comic strip and the Penny Arcade company also exists. This show is called Penny Arcade: The Series. It began airing on February 20, 2010. It gives viewers a look behind the scenes of how the comic and company work.
