The theatre company started a long time ago. In 1973, a person named George Vafiadis created a group called the Acadia Repertory Company. Ten years later, in 1983, the Penobscot Theatre Company grew out of that first group. It has been entertaining audiences ever since.

Who Leads the Theatre?

Many talented people have helped lead the Penobscot Theatre Company over the years. Joe Turner Cantu was the Artistic Director from 1990 to 1992. After him, Mark Torres became the Producing Artistic Director and stayed in that role for 13 seasons, helping the theatre grow.
