Penwell, Texas facts for kids
Penwell is a small community in Ector County, Texas, in the United States. It's not a city with its own government. Instead, it's a part of a larger area near Odessa. Penwell is special because it has West Texas' only 1/4 mile drag strip, where people race cars!
How Penwell Got Its Name
Penwell was named in 1929. It got its name from a well drilled by an oilman named Robert R. Penn. This well was important for finding oil in the area.
Penwell's Sunny Climate
Penwell has a very sunny climate all year long. This is because the air usually moves downwards and there is high pressure. According to a system called the Köppen Climate Classification, Penwell has a desert climate. This means it is very dry and gets little rain. On climate maps, this type of weather is often called "Bwh."
