Peoria is a small place in Franklin County, Kansas, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
The Story of Peoria
Peoria started in the late 1850s. It got its name from the Peoria tribe. This Native American tribe used to live in the area where the community is now.
A post office opened in Peoria in 1857. It closed just two years later in 1859. But it reopened in 1860! The post office finally closed for good in 1934.
In 1895, about 123 people lived in Peoria.
