Pepillo Salcedo is a town in the Dominican Republic. It is located in the Monte Cristi Province. This town is right next to the border with Haiti. People often call it Manzanillo. This is because it is very close to the beautiful Bay of Manzanillo.
The town got its name from a brave hero. His name was José Antonio Salcedo Ramírez. He was an important fighter for the Dominican Republic's independence. He also led soldiers in a big war from 1863 to 1865. Pepillo Salcedo is a coastal town. It sits right on the shores of Manzanillo Bay. It is in the far western part of the Dominican Northwest.
Its official name became Pepillo Salcedo in 1949. This was done to honor José Antonio Salcedo Ramírez. He was known for defending his country. He fought against both Haitian and Spanish forces. This town is also known as Manzanillo and Puerto Libertador.
Pepillo Salcedo in the Dominican Republic and Meillac in Haiti are important places. They mark the start of the border between the two countries. This border is about 400 kilometers long. The other end of the border is at Pedernales and Anse-a-Pitre.
