Sir Percy Burrell, 4th Baronet (born 10 February 1812 – died 19 July 1876) was a British politician. He was a member of the Conservative Party. He also held important local roles as a Deputy Lieutenant and a Justice of the Peace.
Early Life and Education
Percy Burrell was born in Grosvenor Place, London. He was the second son of Sir Charles Burrell, 3rd Baronet and his mother, Frances Wyndham. Frances was the daughter of George Wyndham, 3rd Earl of Egremont.
Percy went to Westminster School and later studied at Christ Church, Oxford. He started his studies there in 1830.
He also served in the British Army. He became a captain in the 18th Sussex Rifle Volunteers.
Political Career
In 1862, Percy Burrell became the 4th Baronet after his father passed away. A baronet is a special title, like a hereditary knighthood.
In the same year, he became a member of the British House of Commons. This is where laws are made in the United Kingdom. He represented the area called New Shoreham. His father had also been the Member of Parliament for this area. Percy Burrell served in this role until he died in 1876.
He also served as a Deputy Lieutenant for Sussex. This role involves helping the Lord-Lieutenant, who represents the King or Queen in a county. He was also a Justice of the Peace in Sussex. A Justice of the Peace is a volunteer who helps with local court cases.
Family Life
On 26 August 1856, Percy Burrell married Henrietta Katherine Brooke-Pechell. Her father was Vice-Admiral Sir George Brooke-Pechell, 4th Baronet. They were married at St George's, Hanover Square in London.
Percy and Henrietta did not have any children.
Sir Percy Burrell passed away at the age of 64. He died in Belgrave Square in London. After his death, his younger brother, Walter, became the 5th Baronet.
