William Percy Miller Jr. (June 6, 1931 – January 11, 2003) was an important baseball player. He helped change the game forever. Percy was one of the first African American players to join a team with white players in the Carolina League. This was a big step in breaking the "color barrier" in sports.

Percy was born and died in Danville, Virginia. His father, Percy Miller Sr., was also a famous baseball player. He played in the Negro leagues, which were separate baseball leagues for African American players. Young Percy first played for a team called the Danville Stars. This was also a Negro team.

Breaking the Color Barrier

On August 9, 1951, Percy Miller Jr. joined the Danville Leafs. This was a very special moment. The Danville Leafs became the first professional baseball team in Virginia to have both Black and white players. This was a huge step forward for equality in sports.

Percy played 19 games with the Danville Leafs during that season. He showed great skill and courage. His presence on the team helped open doors for other players. It also showed that people of different backgrounds could play together.

After the Leafs
