Pere Gimferrer Torrens (born 22 June 1945) is a famous Spanish writer. He is a poet, a translator, and a novelist. He has won Spain's National Poetry Prize twice, which is a very important award.

Pere Gimferrer was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1945. He writes in two different languages: Spanish and Catalan. This means he can create beautiful stories and poems for many readers.

His Works and Awards

Gimferrer has written many books. In Spanish, he wrote poetry collections like Arde el mar (which means The Sea Burns). This book won the National Prize for Poetry in 1966. Other Spanish poetry books include Amor en vilo (2006), Interludio azul (2006), and Tornado (2008).

He also writes in Catalan. His novel Fortuny (1983) won the Ramon Llull Novel Award. This is a major prize for Catalan literature. He also wrote the Catalan poetry collection El vendaval (1988), which also won a National Poetry Prize.

For all his amazing work over the years, he received the Premio Nacional de las Letras Españolas in 1998. This is like a lifetime achievement award for Spanish literature. In 2006, he also won the International Octavio Paz Prize for Poetry and Criticism.

Member of the Royal Spanish Academy

Pere Gimferrer is a member of the Real Academia Española. This is a very important group in Spain that looks after the Spanish language. They make sure the language is used correctly and keep it updated. Gimferrer was chosen to join this Academy on 18 April 1985. He officially took his seat on 15 December of the same year.
