Perico, once called Farwell, is a small, quiet place in Dallam County, Texas, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it does not have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it is managed by the county.

The Story of Perico: A Texas Community

Perico is located right along U.S. Route 87. This road is an important route in Texas. The area was first settled in 1888. It began as a busy spot for shipping goods. This was thanks to the Fort Worth and Denver Railway.

How Perico Got Its Name

When the community was first settled, it was called Farwell. This name came from a line camp on the famous XIT Ranch. The XIT Ranch was a very large cattle ranch in Texas. In 1905, the town's name was changed to Perico. This new name was suggested by a person named George Finday.

Life in Perico: Past and Present

A post office was opened in Perico in November 1907. This helped the small community stay connected. However, the post office eventually closed its doors by 1970. The number of people living in Perico has changed over time. In the 1960s, about 40 people lived there. By 1980, the population had become very small, with only two residents.
