Periwinkle at the Full Moon Ball is a fun children's book. It is the very first story in the popular Beechwood Bunny Tales series. This book was first published in France in 1987. Later, it came out in the United States in 1991. It even won some awards in France, like the Prix Saint-Exupéry!
The Story of Periwinkle
This book is about a young rabbit named Periwinkle Bellflower. He hears exciting news about a big summer party. It is called the Full Moon Ball. The party will happen in Beechwood Grove.
Periwinkle has a problem, though. He cannot dance at all! This makes him feel very sad. His family loves to dance, which makes it harder for him.
But then, some unexpected teachers show up! A clever magpie named Magda, a wood pigeon, and a frog decide to help him. In just a couple of days, Periwinkle starts to learn how to dance.
On the night of the Ball, Periwinkle is ready! He shows off his new dance moves. What he does not know is that Magda has a sneaky plan. She wants everyone in Beechwood to laugh at him.
Luckily, a wise white owl sees Magda's trick. The owl tells everyone about the magpie's plan. Instead of laughing, the owl asks Periwinkle to dance again! Everyone, especially his family, is super happy. Periwinkle keeps dancing until the sun comes up. Then, the Bellflower family heads home, tired but happy.
Periwinkle on TV!
Did you know this book also became a TV show? On November 10, 2004, a TV episode based on the book aired in France. It was called "Periwinkle's First Dance" in English. This episode was part of an animated series called The Bellflower Bunnies.
You could even find this episode on DVD! It was released in March 2005. It was part of the third volume of the show's second season.
