Persoonia papillosa is a type of flowering plant that belongs to the Proteaceae family. It grows only in a small area in the western part of Western Australia. This plant is a small, upright bush with fuzzy young branches. Its leaves are long and thin, with six clear lines running along them. The flowers are also fuzzy and grow in groups of up to twenty on a stem called a rachis, which can be up to 60 millimeters long.

What Persoonia papillosa Looks Like

Persoonia papillosa is a small, upright bush. It usually grows to about 30 centimeters (about 1 foot) tall. When the young branches first appear, they are covered with light brown hairs.

Leaves and Flowers

The leaves of this plant are long and narrow, like a line. They are usually 15 to 30 millimeters long and about 1 to 1.3 millimeters wide. You can see six clear lines, or veins, running side-by-side along each leaf.

The flowers grow in groups of up to twenty. They are found along a main stem called a rachis, which can be up to 60 millimeters long. This stem often keeps growing even after the flowers have bloomed. Each flower sits on its own small stalk, called a pedicel, which is 6 to 14 millimeters long. At the bottom of each flower's stalk, there is a small leaf or scale.

The outside parts of the flower, called tepals, are very hairy. They are about 9.5 to 11 millimeters long. Persoonia papillosa flowers bloom from September to January.

How This Plant Got Its Name

Persoonia papillosa was first officially named in 1994. A scientist named Peter Weston described it in a science journal called Telopea. He studied plant samples that were collected near Yuna in 1962.

Where Persoonia papillosa Lives

This special plant, also known as a geebung, grows in sandy soil. So far, it has only been found in two main areas in Western Australia. These places are near the Murchison River and Yuna. Both locations are within a natural area called the Geraldton Sandplains biogeographic region.

Protecting Persoonia papillosa

The Western Australian Government's Department of Parks and Wildlife keeps track of rare and important plants. Persoonia papillosa is listed as "Priority Two." This means that not much is known about this plant, and it has only been found in one or a few places. This makes it important to protect its habitat so it can continue to grow.
