Persoonia subtilis is a shrub that spreads out or grows low to the ground. It usually grows to be about 15 to 100 centimeters tall. It has many stems. Its young branches are covered with grayish or brownish hairs.

The leaves of this plant are long and narrow. They are about 15 to 50 millimeters long. They are also very thin, about 0.4 to 0.8 millimeters wide. The leaves curve upwards. They have a small groove on their underside.

The flowers are yellow. They are about 7 to 10 millimeters long. They grow in groups of up to eighteen flowers. These groups are found along a main stem called a rachis. This rachis can be up to 50 millimeters long. It often keeps growing even after the flowers bloom. Each flower sits on a small, hairy stalk called a pedicel. This pedicel is about 2 to 8 millimeters long. A small leaf or scale is found at the base of each flower's stalk.

Persoonia subtilis mostly flowers from November to January. After flowering, it produces a green fruit. This fruit is called a drupe. It has purple stripes.

How Was Persoonia subtilis Named?

Scientists officially named Persoonia subtilis in 1994. The botanists Peter Weston and Lawrie Johnson described it. They wrote about it in a science journal called Telopea. They studied plant samples collected in 1990. These samples were found near the Mimosa Creek falls. This area is part of the Blackdown Tableland National Park.

Where Does Persoonia subtilis Grow?

This type of geebung plant grows in forests and woodlands. You can find it in south-eastern Queensland, Australia. It lives in the area between the Blackdown Tableland, the Carnarvon Range, and Barakula.
