Pescadito was once a small community located near Laredo in southwestern Webb County, Texas. Today, it is known as a ghost town. A ghost town is a place where most people have left, and the town is no longer active.

What Was Pescadito?

Pescadito was a tiny town that existed for a while in Texas. It was located in Webb County, which is in the southern part of the state. The name "Pescadito" means "little fish" in Spanish.

Pescadito's Early Days

The town of Pescadito started in 1881. It became a stop along the Texas Mexican Railway. Railways were very important back then for moving goods and people. In 1930, Pescadito was a very small place, with only about 25 people living there.

Why Pescadito Became a Ghost Town

For many years, the main business in Pescadito was cutting and selling mesquite wood. This wood was used to fuel the trains on the railway. However, things changed in 1946. Trains started using coal instead of wood for fuel. This meant there was no longer a big need for mesquite wood from Pescadito. When the main business left, people started to move away, and the town slowly became empty, turning into a ghost town.
