History of Pescozada
Pescozada started in 1998. It was formed by two friends, Luis Escobar (Fat Lui) and Cesar Diaz Alvarenga (Debil Estar). Both loved hip hop music. They grew up during a difficult time in El Salvador. The civil war was happening, and their home area, Chalatenango, saw a lot of violence.
Later, Omnionn, a producer of Salvadoran hip hop and electronic music, joined the group. His skills helped their music become even better. Pescozada's music often sounds strong and serious. Their lyrics are usually very fast-paced.
First Album: Diaz Ozkuros en el Barrio
In 2002, Pescozada released their first album, "Diaz Oskuros en el Barrio". A year later, in 2003, they put out a collection called "El Klan de la Diskordia-La Primera Reunion". This collection featured Pescozada and other talented rappers from Central America, especially El Salvador. They have worked with many artists. These include Mecate, Apollo 11, Frost, Mi'ky y El As, Robwest, and Reyes del Bajo Mundo.
Dialectos Nativos Album
In 2004, Pescozada released "Dialectos Nativos" with Salvadoran-American rapper Joaquin Santos. This album was very important for Salvadorans living in North America. Many immigrants started speaking "el dialecto" (Salvadoran Spanish) again. This helped them remember their traditions, even when facing challenges in new countries. The album also talks a lot about the Salvadoran civil war. You can hear this in songs like "Cielo Gris".
"Diaz Oskuros en el Barrio" and "Dialectos Nativos" were made with the three original members: Fat Lui, Debil Estar, and Poeta Demente (Mario Arteaga). Poeta Demente later left the group.
El Teatro Plebeyo Album
In August 2005, Pescozada released "El Teatro Plebeyo". This was their first album released with a music label. It has 17 songs that share the group's ideas and views on politics. The album also features collaborations with well-known international hip-hop artists. These include Frost, Sean T, Santos, Apolo 11, Reyes del Bajo Mundo, Salaya, Mic'ky y El As, and Robwest.
"El Teatro Plebeyo" helped Pescozada become known around the world. It also became an important album for Central American hip-hop. The album was played on radio stations outside El Salvador. This was especially true in places like the US and Canada, where many Salvadoran communities live.
Anarquia Club Social Album
On June 2, 2009, after four years of work, "Anarquia Club Social" was released. This album has thirteen songs and two hidden tracks. The members of Pescozada fully produced or co-produced all the songs. Unlike "El Teatro Plebeyo", this album had no other producers or rappers featured. The only exception was their long-time friend Joaquin Santos, who appeared in three songs.
Salvadoran newspapers said this album showed a more confident Pescozada. It was a result of their ten years in music. Debil Estar focused on the meaning of his lyrics. Fat Lui continued his direct lyrical style with clever lines. Omnionn brought back more of his electronica sounds. This made their music different from typical Salvadoran hip hop.
Six months after "Anarquia Club Social" came out, the music label Istmo Music chose the album and the group. They launched a new part of their company called Istmo Urban. They signed a deal with Pescozada to promote the album worldwide. This was mostly done through online music stores like iTunes and Amazon.com.
The album had two popular songs: "In tha place (feat. Salaya)" and "Anarquia". The song "Anarquia" caused some discussion in El Salvador. This was because it used the voice of Salvadoran President Antonio Saca in the lyrics. The song made people think about freedom of speech in El Salvador. This right has sometimes been limited in the country. "Anarquia" was played on a few left-wing radio stations. However, many mainstream radio stations reportedly did not play the song.
Other Facts About Pescozada
