Peter Bently (born in 1960) is a super talented British writer who creates amazing books for kids. He's famous for his fun, rhyming picture books that often make you laugh! Some of his well-known books include The Great Dog Bottom Swap, Meet the Parents, and The Shark in the Dark.
Peter Bently's books have won many cool awards. For example, his book Octopus Shocktopus won the 2022 Children's Book Award (UK). Another book, Cats Ahoy!, won the Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2011. His book King Jack and the Dragon was even named a special book by the American Library Association.

Early Life and Moving Around
Peter Bently was born in 1960 in a place called Tidworth, which is in Hampshire, England. His dad was an army bandmaster, which meant his family moved a lot! Peter grew up in many different places, both in England and in other countries. He lived in Germany, Singapore, and Hong Kong, and he went to ten different schools!
From Languages to Children's Books
After finishing school, Peter went to Oxford University where he studied languages. Later, he worked as a journalist, which means he wrote for newspapers or magazines. Then, he became an editor and wrote books that had lots of pictures and facts.
In 2008, Peter published his very first picture book for children. It was called A Lark in the Ark. Since then, he has written more than seventy books! That's a lot of stories!
Popular Books and Awards
Some of Peter's recent books are really popular. Octopus Shocktopus won an award in 2020 and was also nominated for other prizes. Another book, Dogs in Disguise, is also a favorite. He also wrote The King’s Birthday Suit!.
Today, Peter Bently lives in London with his wife, Lucy Curtin. Lucy is an actor and also teaches acting.
