Meet Peter Catalanotto, the Book Artist
Peter Catalanotto was born in March 1959. His birthplace was Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in a place called East Northport, on Long Island. He went to Elwood-John Glenn High School there.
How He Started His Art Journey
Peter studied art at the Pratt Institute. This is a well-known art school. In the 1980s, he began his career. He painted covers for books for young adults. He also drew pictures for newspapers and magazines.
Creating Worlds with Pictures
A big moment came in 1987. He was asked to illustrate a book called All I See. It was written by Cynthia Rylant. After this, Peter started writing his own picture books. His very first book that he also wrote was Dylan's Day Out. It came out in 1989.
Since then, Peter has published over 45 books! He wrote 19 of these books himself. Some of his popular books include Matthew A.B.C. (2005) and Emily's Art (2006). He also created Ivan the Terrier (2007). Other favorites are Question Boy Meets Little Miss Know-It-All (2012) and his fun Monkey & Robot series.
Sharing His Knowledge
Peter Catalanotto also loves to teach. He teaches a special course. It's about writing children's books. He teaches this course at two famous universities. These are Columbia University and Pratt Institute. In 2008, something very special happened. The First Lady, Laura Bush, asked him to illustrate the White House holiday brochure. This was a great honor!
