Peter Cuong Franklin is a well-known Vietnamese American chef. He is famous for creating Anan Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He also founded Chôm Chôm in Hong Kong. Chef Franklin specializes in "Cuisine Mới," which means "new Vietnamese cooking."
He was born in Da Lat, Vietnam. His mother, Nguyễn Thị Như Thừa, owned a noodle shop. As a child, Peter had to leave Ho Chi Minh City on April 29, 1975. This was during a time of big changes in Vietnam. Later, an American family adopted him. He went to Fairfield College Preparatory School and Yale University.

Chef Franklin's Career

Before becoming a chef, Peter Franklin worked in finance. He was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley. In 2008, he decided to follow his passion for cooking. He then enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu, a famous cooking school.
He trained at several top restaurants around the world. These included Nahm in Bangkok and Caprice in Hong Kong. He also learned at Next and Alinea in Chicago. In 2011, Chef Franklin opened his first restaurant, Chôm Chôm, in Hong Kong.
Anan Saigon: A Modern Vietnamese Restaurant
In 2017, Chef Franklin opened Anan Saigon. This modern Vietnamese restaurant is in Ho Chi Minh City. It is located in a special "tube house" in the old market area. Anan Saigon quickly became very popular.
Anan Saigon was the first restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City to get a special award. It was named one of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants in 2021. In 2023, it was ranked 40th on the same list. Also in 2023, Anan Saigon received a 1-star rating. This was from the first-ever Vietnam Michelin Guide. A Michelin star is a very high honor for a restaurant.
