Peter Gilmore is a famous Australian chef. He was born on May 18, 1968, in Sydney, Australia. He is known as the head chef at two top restaurants: Quay and Bennelong. Bennelong is located inside the amazing Sydney Opera House.
Quay restaurant has been listed among The World's 50 Best Restaurants many times since 2009. Peter Gilmore is also a special guest on Masterchef Australia. His famous dessert, the "Snow Egg," was one of the hardest challenges on the show.
Becoming a Chef
Peter Gilmore loved cooking from a young age. He started learning to cook at 16 years old. He spent his twenties working in kitchens. He cooked in different places overseas and in New South Wales, Australia. During this time, he developed his own unique cooking style.
In 2000, Peter became the Head Chef at De Beers Restaurant. A food reviewer praised his cooking. They said he had a "real talent" for making beautiful and simple food.

Chef Gilmore's cooking is inspired by nature. He loves gardening and uses many special ingredients. He was one of the first chefs in Australia to use heirloom vegetables. These are older, unique types of vegetables.

The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide has given Quay three Chefs Hats for 18 years in a row. It has also been named Restaurant of the Year six times. The Australian Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide has given Quay three stars for 18 years. It has also named it Restaurant of the Year three times.
In 2014, Peter Gilmore's team won the chance to run the Bennelong Restaurant. This famous restaurant is inside the Sydney Opera House. The new Bennelong opened on July 1, 2015. It shows off the amazing flavors and quality of Australian food.
